Osama bin Laden the mastermind behind the Sept, 11 2001, attacks was killed in Pakistan early Monday morning.
"Justice has been done," President Barack Obama said late Sunday night addressing the world from the White House in an announcement that brought joy and closure to many Americans.
As news of bin Laden's death spread, hundreds of people cheered and waved American flags at ground zero in New York. Thousands also celebrated all night outside the White House gates.
Prime Minister Steven Harper also delivered a speech of his own being quoted as saying, "we will continue to stand firm with our allies against the threat of global terrorism".
With the death of the 54-year-old bin Laden marks a triumph in a long struggle that began well before the Sept. 11 attacks. It is truly a milestone in the war on terrorism but the battle to stop al-Qaida is far from over.
