Great Start To The Season
May 20, 2012 Canadian Heroes arrived at Varney Speedway for their first race in the Lucas Oil Sportsman Cup Series.
The newly installed Chevy Challenger SRT body & 604 crate motor were about to have it's first race of the season. McColl Racing worked under a tight deadline to have the car ready for it's inaugural race.
Steve Moore was more than thrilled to be back behind the wheel racing. Steve is a veteran in the Afghanistan war and was more than ecstatic to have the opportunity to be driving for the Canadian Hero initiative.
Our time trial was 14.6 seconds around the quarter mile oval nicknamed the "fishbowl", with that time we managed to start in 9th position.
Mike from McColl Racing Enterprises took the time to come for race day and set up the car, and make sure we were good for the race.
Under the 32 degrees weather, sun beating down, the race was underway. Steve expressing that he was nervous but excited and wanted to show Canada what we were about. A few laps in, his confidence grew and managed to get up to 5th place.
We finished the full 100 laps and managed to pull a 7th place finish! We couldn't have asked for anything better. A great thank you go out to our team for that day - Fred, Marie, Steve, Andy, Peter John and Adam.
The crowd reaction was phenomenal and fans young and old gathered to receive Canadian flags signed by our driver and thank us for everything Canadian Heroes has been doing.
In other news Ian Patterson's newly wrapped #74 Corvette took a second place finish in Mosport in the Trans Am SCCA Series.
One top five placing, and one top ten finish - what a great start to the season! Follow us on Facebook & Twitter to keep up to date, and we hope to see you at our next race!
