Cpl. Yannick Scherrer, Laid To Rest

On March 27, 2011 Canada lost a hero. Cpl. Yannick Scherrer, 24, was on foot patrol with Afghan forces 15 kilometres southwest of Kandahar City when he was hit with an improvised explosive device. Cpl. Scherrer was the 155th Canadian Soldier to fall in the Afghan mission overall but the first in 2011.

March 30, Cpl. Yannick Scherrer was returned to Canada and was repatriated. On April 8, 2011 our hero was returned to his home town of Victoriaville, Quebec.

Lise Charron along with Kathie & Rod Comeau were there with the Canadian Heroes vehicles to pay our respects for this true Canadian Hero. We also had the privilege to be involved in the funeral procession that went from Victoriaville to Valcartier. "It was an honour" said Kathie, who met with Cpl. Scherrer mother.

"She was extremely humbled" and couldn't believe that we had travelled so far to pay our respects for her son.

Our hearts continue to go out to the Scherrer family and all people affected by a loss from the Afghan mission. We are truly grateful for all of their sacrifices.
